Nationally Recognized Designer Resale Boutique “Women’s Closet Exchange” Leading the Fashion Charge
You don’t have to be a diehard fashionista or know all the top local designer names to love and appreciate everything about the fashion industry. Even if you’re simply someone who admires the talents of the fashion industry, the fact that St. Louis is in the midst of a revival of its historic legacy in the US fashion industry is absolutely exciting for everyone. St Louis’ once storied garment district was second in line to New York as a major fashion hub in the late 19th century. Now, several devoted business leaders are helping St. Louis make a fashion revival.
The Saint Louis Fashion Fund, the non-profit leading the city’s cultural rebirth in fashion, recently opened the doors to its fashion incubator. The Fund started the $2 million-dollar campaign launched in 2015 and has already raised more than $1.3 million toward helping breathe new life into the once booming local fashion industry. The incubator, located in the center of the garment district at 1533 Washington Ave, houses six designers in residence. The two-year program gives beginning designers the tools and guidance to take their business to the next level.
Highlighting local designers is an extremely important aspect to the cause and so is supporting major events such as St. Louis Fashion Week. This fall will be the 12th season for the show, which is the largest of its kind in the Midwest. It provides designers with valuable resources, important networking opportunities, and a showcase for both local and national designers to connect with a Midwest audience.
One very progressive business leader playing a key role in recognizing and promoting local artists is Krista Tolbert. Her business, Women’s Closet Exchange, is a nationally recognized designer resale and consignment boutique on the corner of Sappington and Gravois Road in the South St. Louis County. Her boutique is holding a designer showcase featuring local St. Louis designers. The New Face of Women’s Closet Exchange Celebration will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 11am – 3pm.
Krista has an extensive 25 year background in the retail industry and her own unique sense of style. She is a University of Missouri-Columbia graduate and has held several executive management positions in large department stores and specialty shops, as well as roles in human resources and recruiting. She is also a proud member of the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW), and N.A.R.T.S (National Association of Resale Professionals.)
Krista took over as new owner of the Women’s Closet Exchange in 2016 and brought with her a ‘fresh’ new take on how to enhance women’s lives. The boutique was founded by resale queen Sue McCarthy. It was the setting for Style Network’s Resale Royalty, and a place that has been successfully dressing women in St. Louis and around the country for almost 30 years.
Besides continuing the legacy of providing fabulous, exclusive designer brands and styles at an affordable price to all her customers, Tolbert has raised the bar even higher. She has made the shopping experience much more personal for her customers with her special “Pamper Me” personal wardrobe styling services, plus private shopping parties.
Krista also recently had St. Louis Media, LLC do an entire website makeover, adding Ecommerce, making shopping even easier for her customers. The boutique is now selling and shipping elegant items all over the United States. Be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with latest new arrivals and special sales.
